A naming ceremony is a special way to celebrate the arrival of your child and welcome them into your world. It also provides an opportunity for your friends and relatives to confirm their relationship with your child.
Many parents make vows during the naming ceremony promising to be the best parents they possibly can, and take this opportunity to acknowledge the role of others in the life of their child - siblings, grandparents, other relatives and friends.
The naming can be very simple or can include different rituals such as:
- lighting candles,
- anointing with aromatherapy oils,
- sprinkling with rose petals,
- bestowing of wishes, or
- releasing of balloons
Together we can create a ceremony that expresses your sentiments. I encourage parents to start by thinking about the promises they wish to make to their child and asking the Godparents to do the same.
Involving grandparents and siblings in the ceremony is important as they're going to be a huge part of your child's life.
Your child will receive a Naming Certificate as a memento of the day.
